The Western Illinois ARC established its first 2 Meter FM repeater in early 1969 making this club among the first in the nation to operate such a VHF device. The early history of the WIARC repeaters is detailed in a short article that may be viewed by clicking on the Early WIARC Repeaters link to the left. Thanks to Andy, N9XEO and Glenn Glessner, K9JJD for this information. Glenn was one of the local hams involved in the club in that era.
This narrative covers the early days up to the mid 1970's. In the early 1980's repeater control and ownership issues resulted in the Adams County Ermergency Radio Service group being disolved with control and ownership of the two voice repeaters (all that were in operation at the time) eventually returning to the WIARC main group.
Today the WIARC sponsors three 2 Meter voice repeaters (146.34/.94, 147.63/.03, 147.795/.195 Mhz) one 70 cm voice repeater (448.900/443.900 Mhz), an APRS node and a PacketCluster Node (144.910 Mhz, currently inactive). All voice repeaters are located in the Quincy area and provide mobile coverage over an area of about 75 miles in radius. The APRS and PacketCluster nodes cover the local Quincy area. All operate under the club call W9AWE.
Details of each individual WIARC repeater may be found via the links to the left.
