Field Day 2017 is June 24 - 25 !!   Club News & Coming Events

Field Day 2017 Coming Soon....

Members of the Western Illinois ARC will join with members of the Hannibal ARC in a combined Field Day effort for 2017. Operation will take place at the W9AWE club station/EOC in the Adams County American Red Cross chapter house, 3000 North 23rd Street, Quincy, IL.

Setup will start at about 8 AM Saturday morning with on air operation commencing at 1 PM local time. On Saturday evening there will be a carry in pot luck dinner with the WIARC supplying grilled meats, table service, iced tea, coffee and lemonaide. Each family is requested to bring a covered dish to share with the group. There will be coffee and rolls for the early morning crew on Sunday. Tear down will begin immediately following the final QSO at 1PM Sunday.

W9AWE will operate in class 2F from the Red Cross EOC. One station will be dedicated to phone and one to CW. There will also be a GOTO station which will be supervised by a higher class operator. This will allow newly licensed operators (independent of license class) and interested unlicensed persons the opportunity to get on the air and experience one of the most popular operating events of the ham year.

The objective of the Field Day event is to work as many stations as possible on any amateur band (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions.

Field Day is always the fourth full weekend of June, beginning at 1800 UTC Saturday (1:00pm CDT) and running through 2059 UTC Sunday (3:59pm CDT). Field Day 2017 is June 24-25. Only 24 concecutive hours of operation are permitted for each station. If a station goes on air at 1:00 PM Saturday, then operation must cease at 12:59 PM Sunday. For more information contact the 2017 Field Day Chairman, Mike NA9Q
